When RMF academies set up the aim was to take first class football clinics out to areas of Australia where kids would not normally get these types of opportunities. We also encouraged kids to be sponsored to attend and would work with any community to try and get the best results out of such football clinics.
One of the criteria that we started with was to choose one participant that we would sponsor up to $3,500.00 to go to Glasgow, Scotland for a 1 week Celtic FC experience. The Celtic FC coaches running the clinics were told to find an outstanding player over the three weeks of academies in April that was deserved of such an opportunity.
And so it was that they chose Mikiyas Ouliaris from Coburg City FC, Victoria.
Miki, as he is affectionately known, is 14 years old will be travelling with his mum to Glasgow in December this year to hook up with the Celtic FC academy and have a run with the Scottish bhoys for one week.
Miki has been told to have himself and his boots ready for kick off at St. Ninian's High School Kirkintilloch on Monday 4th Dec. He will then be joining the U16 squad for training.
Miki will also experience training at the famous Lennoxtown Training Centre, in fact training during the week will be split 50/50 between the two Celtic FC training centres.
Clearly this will be an opportunity of a lifetime for Mikki but he is under no illusions that this is a trial. He is there because he was chosen to experience the Celtic FC way of life in a football sense.
We will be closely watching Miki’s progress but in the meantime all of us at RMF wish Miki and his mum a very safe trip and we hope that he gains lots of exciting football experience while visiting the Scottish giants, Celtic FC.
Miki at Celtic FC academy Scotland
"Miki is having the BEST time. The Celtic Club is so fantastic. So welcoming, down to earth, lovely with the bhoys. And the bhoys in the Academy have been so lovely with Miki. They have looked after him so well. He has loved being at the school because he really got to know the lads. And this made training even better.
The coaches are challenging but really friendly and fun.
The facilities are amazing.
And we have loved being in Scotland. Glasgow is the best. So warm, relaxed and friendly. Love the accent of course!"
"Thanks for giving Miki this wonderful opportunity. It's really been such a great experience for all of us."
"This is Miki. I've just finished up my training with the bhoys. I'm sad to leave the lads. They were brilliant to train with and they really looked after me. We all felt like brothers in the squad.
The coaches helped me learn a lot throughout the week. They challenged me in a very fun way, which made me feel more at home.
Overall a magnificent experience.
It has made me more determined to work harder and train more. I trained one and a half hours morning and night. And now a feel sore but determined.
The other team players said I was one of the best Australian players they'd seen. They loved my pace and enthusiasm! They were better than me but I got better each day.
I feel really excited about playing NPL for Northcote next year. Being at Celtic has given me so much more confidence in the way I play.
Thank you Kevin for making this all happen for me. It was the best ever!!
